Documentation of Memory: Video 3:05
September 2014
As a survivor of psychological illness, I often find myself trying to reclaim past traumatic experiences. Sometimes I feel like if I could just remember what happened, then I could somehow correct it and change everything. What I found is that reaching for past memories is not something unique to victims of trauma. Our minds wander to events such as our first stuffed animal, last moments spent with our grandparents, the day we took an iconic family portrait, and the list goes on. These memories are constantly shaped by our interactions with others, their recount of the event, or what we thought should have happened. This video explores these thoughts, wishes, and (mis)rememberings.
